Branding New Zealand's largest beach festival with a splash of emotive digital illustrations

Located on the idyllic Takapuna beach front, Waterbourne brings together watersports, live music, and entertainment for all ages in one festival. Waterbourne is embarking on a journey to provide memorable experiences whilst protecting and rebuilding New Zealand’s coastline through a range of initiatives.

Our objective was to refresh the Waterbourne brand mark as well as create an array of engaging illustrations to be used across website, promotions, stage design and merch. Waterbourne attracts a wide range of festival-goers from athletes to children and music lovers. The Waterbourne brand needed to be inclusive and appeal to all of these audiences.

 

Illustrations

Illustrations were a great solution to create an exciting atmosphere for the upcoming festival. We worked closely with festival organisers to create a multitude of detailed illustrations. Since this was the first Waterbourne festival in the new Takapuna location, illustrations set the scene for the new event and allowed viewers to envision the festival space. 

A series of illustrations were created for various web pages across the Waterbourne website. These illustrations needed to be vector-based to be adapted and reused for other collateral such as posters and social media posts. Maps were also designed to complement the illustrative style of Waterbourne’s branding.
